Barnett looked in good shape when
I saw him at UFC 59, appearing trim and lean. It comes down to how
effectively Barnett can control the bigger man, who may have 20 lbs. on
him come fight time, work the clinches and if he can obtain top
position. From there, Barnett has excellent positional control and can blend in elbows and strikes while threatening submission attempts to keep opponents occupied. Barnett still hasn't had a breakout performance against a top-level foe since stopping Randy Couture four years ago at UFC 36, the finest showing of his career. The guess here is that he's due, as his athleticism has always carried him against bigger, stronger guys. Conditioning might be a factor as well. Go with Barnett by late submission or ground and pound in a war. |
